T’ai
Chi
T’ai
Chi is a traditional and very ancient form of Chinese martial art
and meditation. Its name, derived from a concept of Chinese “supreme
ultimate,” expresses the belief that T’ai Chi represents
the highest development of an essential physical and psychological
principle.
It is impossible to teach the elements of T’ai Chi in a workshop
experience as the true training and mastering of this art takes years.
It is also good to remember that there are many teachers T’ai
Chi and many forms that are used. It is interesting to note that the
Chinese Government still recognizes the health aspect of T’ai
Chi and requires their citizens to practice some form daily. As a
matter of interest, we have been told that hospital and doctor visits
are only accessible based on the faithful practice by these citizens.
Kam Lau has been practicing T’ai Chi for over 25 years and is
an accomplished teacher of the 108 form Yang Style as taught by Cheng
Man-ch’ing. People wishing to perfect or even practice this
technique are welcome to participate in a learning experience.
We have found that this works best in workshops that are diverse and
offer many avenues for their attendees. Usually, in these settings
people come with some knowledge and experience in T’ai Chi and
are open to experiencing a technique that may differ from theirs.
This is not necessary but keep in mind that this will only enable
the beginner to experience T’ai Chi and, if desired, they should
seek a teacher to work with in their own environment.
We have used T’ai Chi in the early morning to open and center
people so that they can wake up and begin their day with renewed thought
and energy.
CHI
GONG
Like T’ai Chi, there are many forms of Chi Gong that are taught
and practiced. In a workshop setting there is no way that all disciplines
can be taught.
Kam Lau teaches a form of Chi Gong that is used for opening blocks
and improving the circulation of the breath. This form can be taught
to anyone, regardless of experience or knowledge and can be immediately
used to improve ones health and stamina.
Our teachers are also practiced in the forms of Chi Gongthat are known
as Pi Gu and Da Peng Gong. These two forms are practiced when strengthening
ones abilities in doing Tong Ren therapy and when working in the Pi
Gu state. These are fully explained and defined in the section entitled
Tong Ren.
